F.R.I.D.A. (Far-Ranging Integrated Defense Aeormaton) is an Aeormaton fighter/rogue/cleric and a werewolf. F.R.I.D.A. is played by Christian Navarro.
Description
Official art of FRIDA, by Hannah Friederichs.[art 2]
Appearance
F.R.I.D.A. is a slender emerald green, rose gold-framed Aeormaton with a feminine face and 6-foot tall muscular frame.[7] There is guilloché machined patterning under the enamel on their cladding.[8] When encountered by Bells Hells, they were wearing a very elegant, beautifully designed emerald green trench coat, with the collar up, framing their neck; the coat had Deanna's name embroidered, and more recently, FCG's as well. Their right hand was peeled backward revealing a blunderbuss gun hidden inside their arm.[9] Their right arm was bare, and when FRIDA casts healing magic, an etching of the Dawnfather's symbol lights up.[10]
Their faceplate can be removed by pressing a button on each side of the temple. On the inside, inscribed along the jawline, their full name is written.
Personality
F.R.I.D.A. is a dutiful individual that, after discovering that they were intended to protect, focused in that task by keeping their best friend Deanna safe, making her their priority, even if they are also loyal, affectionate and protective around other friends.[11] In a similar way, they are patient and understanding when talking with others, although defending their own posture, like their opinion about the gods.[12] The gunslinger is fascinated by their past in Aeor, having a great desire of learning more and understanding themselves better; because of that, after meeting Fresh Cut Grass F.R.I.D.A. was elated, and the positive feelings towards the other Aeormaton soon developed into a crush.
According to Deanna, F.R.I.D.A. has a certain recklessness that makes her worry about their safety.[13]
Biography
Background
During their time in Aeor F.R.I.D.A., as a "Far-Ranging Integrated Defense Aeormaton", was a ranger of some sort,[14] focused on fighting and defending. They were in the floating city when the gods destroyed it, defending the Factorum Malleus and killing other Aeorians to do so.[15]
However, after the fall of the city, their body was severely harmed, staying nonfunctional for a long time. During that period the gunslinger was happy, or at the very least not sad. F.R.I.D.A. was found by D in a terrible state, and this mysterious individual took the time to repair the Aeormaton's body.[16] They woke up around 841 PD near the Crystalsands Tundra, although they did not remember talking to D or getting any explanation or instructions from him.[17] F.R.I.D.A. made their way to Uthodurn, lost and confused, and when they arrived people found them scary, although not the children, who were more accepting. It was in that city where the Aeormaton heard Deanna Leimert's laughter for the first time, and it awoke a memory inside of them. They realized one of their primary functions in the past was to record. They now have recordings of everyone's laughter that they've ever met, but Deanna's was both unique and familiar, inspiring in them an urge to protect.[18]
The gunslinger and the cleric became friends, and started living together and going on adventures. In the most recent trip FRIDA made with Deanna they visited Eiselcross following the gunslinger's dreams, and tried to find information about Aeor in its ruins, but encountered instead a lot of monsters and Xhorhasian soldiers.[19]
"Far From The Others" (3x52)
Fan art of FRIDA fighting Chetney, by @BuckMoonArt.[art 3]
Chetney Pock O'Pea, Fresh Cut Grass, Imogen Temult, and Fearne Calloway encountered F.R.I.D.A. and Deanna Leimert when they came to the aid of the party when they were attacked by a frost salamander in the Crystalsands Tundra. They decided to join forces to make their way toward Uthodurn. During their second night together, Catha rose full in the night sky at the midpoint of the ongoing Apogee Solstice, causing Chetney to succumb to its influence and transform into a werewolf. Believing he was important to Deanna, F.R.I.D.A. tracked him through the woods but Chetney attacked them, slashing them several times and biting them before eventually overcoming his wolf nature and running off into the woods.
"Ripples" (3x53)
When Chetney returned the next morning, he was worried about FRIDA, but they stated that they had enjoyed their fight. The group continued making their way, and they finally reached Uthodurn, discovering that the people there were nervous because magic wasn't working properly, and the streets were darker than usual. FRIDA welcomed Chetney home and helped him hide behind their jacket in case someone recognized him. Following the Aeormaton's advice, they visited the Vellum Steeple Archive to exchange information about the current situation. When a commotion broke out, the party followed the noise to the Grand Disc, which was being evacuated due to some sort of attack, and they decided to enter to help; in the process FRIDA was left behind and Imogen tried to bring her in, having a brief confrontation with one of the glassblades before finally getting in. The gunslinger helped calming down the people that hadn't been evacuated yet, and later, when they encountered the animal, a celestial bull called Umudara, they were ready to shoot him in the heart. However, when the group learned that the beast was confused and only wanted to return home, they helped him leave the city. FRIDA was particularly concerned about how many creatures like Umudara could be imprisoned all over Exandria.
"Treacherous Toys" (3x54)
After receiving the general admiration of the people of Uthodurn, as well as an invitation to meet the dual monarchs the next day, Bells Hells retired to Deanna's house for the night, and after deciding who would sleep with whom, FRIDA and FCG were left alone; they talked for a bit about their mutual appreciation, as well as the drawings the gunslinger had in their room (FRIDA was initially shy about someone seeing those, especially one they were doing portraying Deanna). As FCG had promised before reaching Uthodurn, he cast Shared Dream to join FRIDA's, witnessing their view of Exandria, as well as the image of a mysterious child. When they both woke up, Fresh Cut Grass helped their friend remember the child's appearance so they could draw him, and the fighter theorised that maybe in their past life they were supposed to protect that child. At FRIDA's request, both Aeormatons stayed alone in the room that night, despite their initial intention of inviting Chetney in, since the bed was empty.

The next morning the group had breakfast together and FRIDA provided precious metals for FCG and themself; when Fearne tried to take a jewel Fresh Cut Grass was about to eat, FRIDA dissuaded her. Bells Hells decided to visit Chetney's old working place, now called D&O Toy Emporium, and discovered that Oltgar Dradegon and his new partner, Drixlitch Ovana, had a problem due to some pymon firebugs. Bells Hells agreed to help them in exchange for money and the opportunity to inspect the workplace, and before Drixlitch left, FRIDA (with Fearne's assistance) stole his keys for Chetney. When they found the firebugs the Aeormaton combined their gunslinger skills and their magic to fight the creatures (casting Decompose to ensure the ones they defeated didn't burn down the place), and they also grabbed Deanna to help her move faster and protect her; later, when they found Drixlitch's pet craskkalid, now in its monstrous adult form, FRIDA attacked it with their gun. When the group talked to Oltgar about the shady deals Drixlitch had involving child labor and the dwarf's eventual early death, they convinced the dwarf to abandon the city and his business, leaving his elven partner to deal with the consequences of his actions. After they were paid, FRIDA gave Chetney some quality wood they had taken from the shop, inspiring the gnome to carve something new for them.
"Hope Within History" (3x55)
During the meeting with the dual monarchs, FRIDA, while initially distracted by FCG's body language, was the one who reported Drixlitch's illegal activities to Simone Fruunast and Imathan Talviel, and soon after suggested to them that, even if the clergy in the city was spooked by the strange distance between them and their deities, now was the moment when the people needed their support and guidance the most. After the meeting FRIDA had a brief private chat with Deanna, admiting they have a crush on FCG, and she supported their feelings (leading to FRIDA pointing that Chetney was a nice man for their friend). FCG accompanied the gunslinger to Jaquoby Macyl's house, and along the way they talked about their feelings and the absence of special people in their respective romantic lives, which led to a kiss between the two Aeormatons. Jaquoby received them, examining and improving Fresh Cut Grass' armor, something that FRIDA complimented. The taller Aeormaton briefly asked Jaquoby if their core could provide energy to cast other people's spells (given the magical limitations during the solstice), and although the gnome wasn't sure he gave them two power cables in case they wanted to experiment.

At Catlyn's Clothier, while the rest of the group improved their outfits, FRIDA asked for their coat to be repaired, and also requested that FCG's name be stitched into it, joining Deanna's. After Imogen noticed the two Aeormatons' behavior with each other FRIDA held FCG's hand in front of everyone, displaying their new closeness; that night their friends gossiped a bit about it but were supportive, even getting excited when hearing sounds from the Aeormatons' room, although they were just screwing FCG's joints. FRIDA attempted to draw him, and they later fell asleep holding hands. The next morning the adventurers got flot goats to travel through the mountains, and FRIDA chose an old and rough-looking specimen that they named Patchwork.
"By Goat or By Boat" (3x56)
FRIDA and her friends successfully traversed the Flotket Alps (they even helped stop a frost giant attack) and reached the Boreal Omen River. There, FRIDA asked Deanna to prioritize FCG's safety over their own, so the cleric talked to the other Aeormaton, having a conversation with him about relationships (his with FRIDA and her past with Chetney), whereupon she agreed to place her Death Ward in FCG; that night the couple of Aeormatons took watch.
The next day the group used their newly built raft to travel faster using the river, leaving their goats behind (except for Jerry, that was killed by Deanna and Chetney, surprising FRIDA, who shared that feeling with Imogen). When they were already in the Savalirwood and they approached a bog wretch and a group of pixies, and ended up fighting, killing the bigger monster and scaring the tiny fey away with Deanna's Control Water; after a tree was damaged FRIDA took some of the wood for Chetney, who was disturbed because the material shifted in his hands slightly. After the battle Deanna was somewhat angry at FRIDA's recklessness in battle, but later, when it was mentioned that the gunslinger might have contracted lycanthropy, Deanna assured them that she could remove the curse if they wished; shortly after, the gunslinger dedicated a hesitant prayer to the Dawnfather to thank him for the new things in their life. In the last leg of the journey on foot, during which FRIDA shared a piece of sapphire with FCG as a snack, they led the rest of the group to the ruins of Molaesmyr.
"The Sorrow of Molaesmyr" (3x57)
FRIDA led their group through the ruins while carrying Deanna on their shoulders, inspecting some of the corpses found in the fallen city, and generally showing confidence until FCG cast Spirit Guardians and gave them the appearance of tiny versions of the gunslinger, which overwhelmed the aforementioned, who found the gesture of the cleric very kind. After a battle against the restless ghosts of Molaesmyr FRIDA was the first to spot a strange flying monster in the area, and later, when they were further separated from the group and caught the attention of the Wolf-King, the gunslinger attempted to lead the predator off the trail of their friends; Bells Hells ended up gathering inside the Gildhollow Tower, out of reach of the Wolf-King.
Inside the building FRIDA made sure the group didn't fall into any traps and expressed her intention to burn the place once they had finished exploring it; Later, when they were inspecting Ludinus' old workplace, reading notes that FRIDA was willing to record, they found a strange magical device on a wall that produced a strange sensation in the gunslinger, although they were unable to identify why, which led FCG and Imogen to offer to use their double Detect Thoughts on them, as they had done with another of their friends in the past.
"Escape From The Past" (3x58)
In the tower Bells Hells confronted a hatemonger, and during the battle FRIDA used both their gun and their scimitar to attack the monster; they also pulled out Fearne after she was swallowed by the creature, casting Spare the Dying and saving her life. When the tower was burning, they and Chetney stayed until the last possible moment to make sure they weren't leaving something valuable behind.
Once they were back into the forest Bells Hells inspected the magical bag that used to belong to Ludinus, and checked his old notes about his arcane harness. After that, FRIDA requested that Imogen and FCG check their mind as they had promised at the Gildhollow Tower, and the two spellcasters (after FRIDA gave their significant other matching hoodies made by Deanna) did that, finding memories of the gunslinger living in Aeor and fighting for the city, being there defending a strange machine when the floating city was destroyed; when they finished, the sorcerer expressed her concern about what Ludinus would do if he gained access to the information inside FRIDA's brain. The gunslinger was very disturbed by their own memories, specially after discovering they had killed their own fellow Aeorians allegedly following orders; they were so worried that they rejected Deanna's attempt to hug them, making her emotional. Chetney gave FRIDA an automaton carved with wood from the Savalir Forest to cheer them up. Later, while the blood hunter and Fearne passionately cheered Deanna on in the forest, FRIDA, somewhat calmer, gazed up at the moon with FCG.
The following day, before leaving, FCG cast Commune to ask Avandra about what should be the next stop (also receiving a warning about Predathos in the process), and when he informed his friends about it, he told FRIDA that the Changebringer had told him that they would be together for a long time. After deciding that they should go to Jrusar next, the whole group (using the Staff of Dark Odyssey, held by Imogen) Teleported.
"Reunited" (3x64)
After two failed Teleports, Team Wildemount arrived on an unknown mountainside inhabited by birdfolk; F.R.I.D.A. had been damaged by the magical energy of the teleportation, acquiring a small fragment of Imogen's psychic powers and briefly being unable to speak Common, although they quickly recovered from that. FCG grew increasingly distraught which F.R.I.D.A. noticed and used their new powers to contact him telepathically, calming him slightly. However, FCG's stress level tipped over into rage, temporarily controlled by Calm Emotions until FRIDA kissed him and he calmed very slightly, enough to regain control. While the exhausted FCG went into stasis, FRIDA cast Detect Thoughts on him, delving deep to discover within him an intrusive but immovable intent to kill, destroy, and cleanse, added by someone building and enchanting something deep within FCG's body.
In the morning, the party Teleported safely to Jrusar. While they were searching for the rest of the party, FRIDA noticed Imogen's worry and checked in with her, assuring her that they'd find the others soon. Imogen gave FRIDA a hug while FCG glared at them jealously and telepathically accused Imogen of being a hussy. When the party reunited, FRIDA played a recording of Imogen describing Laudna as "spooky beautiful", embarrassing Imogen hideously. FRIDA later asked Imogen if it was possible her power derived from Predathos, and she agreed that was quite possible. FRIDA suggested the possibility of reworking the Malleus Key to re-imprison or destroy Predathos, and it was decided that Deanna, Prism, and FRIDA would research this at the libraries in both Jrusar and Vasselheim while the others traveled to the Tishtan excavation site and the Malleus Key there. FCG wanted FRIDA to stay with him, but FRIDA told him telepathically that they didn't trust Prism and needed to protect Deanna. FRIDA assured him it would be a short separation but didn't truly believe it. FRIDA telepathically thanked Chetney for showing that it was important to stay hungry, and told him that if FRIDA "gets a little furry", they would find him. FRIDA kissed FCG, telling him, "In hundreds of years I've never had this opportunity. I love you, Faithful Care-Giver. I'll see you soon." FCG responded, "You will. That's a promise. I love you, FRIDA. Thank you for everything and for giving me yourself."
"True Heroism" (3x91)
When FCG died FRIDA felt it, so intensely it triggered their first lycanthropic transformation, and when they woke up they were alone with Deanna, and around them there were a lot of bodies.
"A New Age Begins" (3x121) and beyond
Bells Hells met up with FRIDA again after Predathos' release in Vasselheim. When the party started to tell them of FCG's death, FRIDA responded that they had already sensed it.[20] They then traveled to Jrusar with the party, where in an attempt to learn more about their lost love FCG, FRIDA visited their old lodgings with Milo Krook and took a few of FCG's abandoned possessions, including a crescent-shaped microchip.[21]
Given their unique nature as the first Aeormaton werewolf, Chetney introduced FRIDA to the Gorgynei.
Relationships
Fresh Cut Grass
Upon Deanna's sarcastic order to kill Chetney, F.R.I.D.A. aimed their blunderbuss at him. In an intimidation attempt to protect Chetney, FCG spun their buzz saw saying "Don't you dare." This pulled F.R.I.D.A.'s attention to FCG. Seeing another Aeormaton for the first time, F.R.I.D.A. felt an immediate connection, saying "You're like me."[22] FCG appeared to be jealous of F.R.I.D.A.'s installed blunderbuss being able to automatically fold back into an automaton's hand, since FCG had to "clumsily" remove and replace his hand attachments.[23] Although they had only recently met and hadn't shared much in common, F.R.I.D.A. expressed a kinship towards FCG, telling them "You may be the closest thing to family I will ever encounter."[24]
Fan art of the kiss, by Sabira Langevin.[art 6]
FRIDA started developing a crush on FCG fairly soon, requesting to spend the night together with them in their room instead of letting Chetney in; the next day, after being paying attention to the cleric during the meeting with the dual monarchs, and after a conversation in which both admitted to be single, FRIDA took the initiative and kissed him. After that both Aeormatons decided to accept their new situation, but while FCG was a bit nervous about it, FRIDA immediately incorporated the cleric in some aspects of their life, adding their name in their coat and later trying to draw him.
As they grew closer their relationship became stronger, and FRIDA was able to calm FCG whenever he was stressed; because of this, the gunslinger was also more willing to show hostility towards whoever made their partner feel uneasy (such as Prism and her raven familiar). After circumstances forced them to take different paths, they promised to find each other again, although deep down FRIDA wasn't sure about if they would be able to keep their promise.
One of FCG's last thoughts before they sacrificed their life on Ruidus to destroy Otohan Thull was to remember FRIDA.[25] Many of the members of Bells Hells were very concerned when they remembered that they would have to tell FRIDA about their partner's death.[26] However, it turned out that FRIDA had sensed FCG's death. Days later they still felt their presence somehow, like a song they barely remembered, and when Fearne asked about it, FRIDA said they were considering the possibility of visiting Aeor to discover if Fresh Cut Grass was truly (and permanently) gone.[27]
Chetney Pock O'Pea
While initially FRIDA was hostile towards Chetney due to his past with Deanna, they quickly started appreciating him, especially when they understood that the cleric still cared for him. After they fought in the forest the gunslinger developed an even deeper admiration for the blood hunter, being more friendly around him, turning to him to ask about FCG's bewildering ideas about the shape of Exandria, and even showing hostility towards the same individual Chetney held a grudge against.
When Chetney learned that FRIDA had turned into a werewolf he was excited, and for a time they stayed together, both being enthusiastic about the potential of a teacher-student dynamic, and with FRIDA even crafting a small gift from him, resembling an Aeormaton's heart. However, after a time, the old gnome decided to introduce them to more experienced teachers: the Gorgynei.[28]

Quotations
- FRIDA: (about their time offline) Wherever I was, I was... happy. Or at least there was the absence of sad. And I was ripped from that and brought back to serve something else. And I think that's selfish. And that the gods like to play games with our lives.[59]
- FRIDA: (about the gods) A hypothetical question. If you couldn't sleep for thousands of years, wouldn't you just want to go to sleep? We keep them turned on by believing in them, to be more than us, but maybe we should give them the gift of rest.[60]
- FRIDA: In hundreds of years I've never had this opportunity. I love you, Faithful Care-Giver. I'll see you soon.
FCG: You will. That's a promise. I love you, FRIDA. Thank you for everything and for giving me yourself.[61]
Trivia
- The initials of their designation form the name Frida, which can be derived from the Germanic fried ("peace" or "safety") or from the Old Norse fríðr ("beautiful" or "beloved").
- Christian Navarro said that he had already decided his character would be named Frida, but his friend Jack (who introduced him to Critical Role) was the one who helped him develop the meaning behind the acronym.[62]
- Christian created this character as a gift of sorts to Sam Riegel,[63] since it was thanks to him that he got to meet the cast of Critical Role and eventually play in a table with them.[64]
- F.R.I.D.A. dreams the same thing every night, and each time the dream becomes slightly more detailed.[65]
- F.R.I.D.A. is learning to draw on their own, sketching their dreams, and trying to create a portrait for Deanna without her knowing.
- F.R.I.D.A. is, along with Vax'ildan, the only player character that has multiclassed into three different classes.
- They are the only member of Bells Hells in Wildemount that hasn't have a visible update in their outfit, thus not having a second illustration made by Hannah Friederichs.
- Their official art included a mechanical bird, although it was never shown in the campaign. This animal companion might have been connected with Christian's idea of building his character as a ranger.[66]
- They like polka a lot.[67]
- Initially Christian and Aabria Iyengar had discussed the possibility of their characters developing a romance with each other, but that idea was discarded and they stayed as close friends instead, being FCG the object of FRIDA's romantic affection.[68]
- When F.R.I.D.A. was affected by the psychic energies of the Teleport spell Christian Navarro illustrated it by speaking in Spanish, saying (as his character) "¡No puedo hablar en inglés! ¿Qué pasó, Imogen? ¿Qué pasó?" (I can't speak English! What happened, Imogen? What happened?).[69]
