A wraithroot tree is a tree animated with necromancy and transmutation rituals to guard objects of grave importance.[1] The most notable wraithroot tree inhabits the Moldered Grove of the Lotusden Greenwood, animated to guard the heart of the Caedogeist.
Description
Wraithroot trees are the product of necromancy and transmutation rituals, granting them intelligence and the ability to walk. Upon awakening, the necromany that granted it life fills it with destructive urges.[1]

The wraithroot tree that lives in the Moldered Grove of Lotusden Greenwood is the tallest tree around.[2][3] It is thin, twisted, and covered in dead vines, with hundreds of leafless branches.[4] It is a paler color than the surrounding trees.[5] When animated, the wraithroot tree's branches become arms and a knot in the center becomes a mouth.[6]
Abilities
A wraithroot tree can appear as an ordinary tree, sharing its vulnerability to fire, resistances to bludgeoning and piercing damage, and immunities to the stunned, frightened, charmed, paralyzed, and poisoned conditions.[1] In addition it has the following abilities:
- Wraith Shift: The wraithroot tree can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. This movement doesn't provoke opportunity attacks and the tree cannot end its turn in a space occupied by a Large or larger creature. Any Medium or smaller creatures within the tree's space at the end of its turn are moved to a nearby unoccupied space of their choosing. Objects of the same size are moved to an unoccupied space of the tree's choosing.[1][7]
- Multiattack: the wraithroot tree can make two slam attacks.[1][8]
- Wraithstorm (Recharge 5–6): the wraithroot tree saps life from the surrounding area and creatures, enfeebling those around it. All creatures within 30 feet that are not a construct or undead make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. On a fail, their speed is halved and they gain vulnerability to bludgeoning damage until the end of the tree’s next turn.[1]
- In order to pull guarded object from from the maw of the tree, a creature must succeed on a Constitution save and then succeed on a contested Strength check against the tree.[9]
History

Jourrael was granted by their master Lolth the gift of immortality. At the end of the Calamity, the armies allied with the Prime Deities joined together to separate Jourrael’s body into parts to circumvent their undying nature. One of the parts, Caedogeist's heart, was hidden in the Lotusden Greenwood under the guard of a wraithroot tree.
Obann, a follower of the Angel of Irons, managed to evade the Mighty Nein's attempts to stop him, obtain the heart and restore Jourrael.
