The Volition was a group working against the Imperium on Ruidus.

History

The Volition existed for generations while the Dominion of Cruth attempted to stamp them out.^[1]

At some point during or before 843 PD the Volition completely destroyed one of the outposts in the mountains near Kreviris, leaving only blackened terrain in its place. That, combined with how difficult it was to see them coming, makes the Imperium soldiers fearful of them.^[2] Later, there were more attacks at and under Kreviris, and Barthie speculated the Volition's base of operations was in or near the capital city.^[3]

When Bells Hells eventually met the leader of the Volition, she revealed that they intended to attack the very heart of Vaterra Kreviris.^[4] Their most recent missions had involved sabotaging the plans of Sorrowlord Zathuda, finding the scientist Evoroa, freeing Exandrian allies of the Talonheart, and killing Liliana Temult.^[5] Although the latter survived and the Volition had to adapt, many days later they were still fighting against the Weave Mind, planning to cause an explosion to demolish the Prime Pillar of Vaterra Kreviris, and were willing to join efforts with Bells Hells and their allies once more.^[6] With the help of the Mighty Nein they attacked the Arx Creonum, causing significant damage while the party infiltrated the Pentathrone Chamber^[7] and killed the Weave Mind.^[8]

After Predathos left Exandria and the Imperium fell, the Volition found a new purpose helping to create connections between Exandrians and Ruidians.^[9]

The organization appears loosely organized, with few willing to admit to being members, but many (both native Ruidians and Exandrians) willing to aid in its operations.

Allies

• Zhesh: Zhesh denied being a member of the Volition, claiming she simply aligned with their cause and helped where she could. However, she was able to tell Bells Hells how to locate the group's current headquarters.^[12]
• Elder Barthie: Barthie similarly denied being a member of the Volition, but has had recent contact with the the group, and it was strongly implied he might be a member or at least a collaborator.^[13]
• Jidoh: Jidoh was the business partner of Zhesh at the Jagged Edge glass shop, and while apparently aware of her activities, wished to maintain plausible deniability about them.^[14]
• Earot: Earot had some contact with the Volition, but he acted mostly out of convenience, allying himself with whoever benefited him most.^[15]
• Evoroa: Bormodo scientist researching the technology brought to Ruidus by the Ruby Vanguard.^[16]
• Ira Wendagoth: Powerful fey willing to lead missions and work on Ruidian technology such as the screech plumes when it aligns with his own goals.^[17]
• Vezoden Amerai, the Talonheart: Sent by the Strife Emperor; led a Volition mission to rescue prisoners of the Imperium^[18]

Communications

The safe house for the organization is moved frequently for safety within the city of Kreviris, signaling its current location by display of a certain color. When Bells Hells spoke to Zhesh, she gave them a vibrant royal purple color swatch and told them to look for that color to find the Volition. Since there were multiple color swatches from which she chose, it seems likely the code color changes frequently.^[19]
