The Demonweb, or Dreadnest, is the domain of the Spider Queen. It is attached to the Abyss.[1][2]

Description

This realm is described as being like soft, blackened, breathing fields of decomposing flesh and broken bones, reeking of ammonia so badly that it burns one's eyes. Curved spines jut from the ground, and there are places where people can be buried in black, weblike filaments.[2]

It is the home of many of the goddess's spider children.[1] Also residing there are what appear to be driders with glowing red eyes, including extra eyes on their foreheads and arms.[2]

History

Dryca with the Stormlord's Heart, by  and from

Dryca with the Stormlord's Heart, by CoupleOfKooks and Cris Peter from The Tales of Exandria: The Bright Queen #2.[art 2]

According to Dryca, the Stormlord created an entrance to the Dreadnest for his mortal champions to enter if the final battles of the Calamity failed. This entrance took the form of the Stormlord's Heart, an artifact on which one person may spread a bit of their blood to travel between the Material Plane and the Dreadnest. The secret of this artifact, according to Dryca, was kept by a line of trusted mortals, and before they died out (some time before the late 830s or early 840s PD) Dryca learned of the location and directions on how to use it. It was hidden in the tunnels beneath the Betrayers' Rise. Activating the heart caused black webs to engulf the area around the user.[2]

Leylas Kryn, following Dryca's directions, sent a near-living dunamantic echo of herself into the Dreadnest by these means to rescue Quana Kryn and retrieve a Luxon beacon. Leylas's echo was impaled by the Spider Queen herself, and an already somewhat unstable Leylas was traumatized by the experience.[2][3]
